About these terms
These terms apply to everyone who uses Go Sussex (“we”, “us”, “our”), the local directory and jobs board for East and West Sussex. By using the website you agree to them. If you create a business account, post a listing or job advert, or buy a paid product, you also agree to the sections that apply to those.
How we handle personal data is explained separately in our privacy notice.
What Go Sussex is (and isn’t)
Go Sussex is a directory. We help people find local businesses and jobs, and we help businesses be found. When you contact or deal with a business you find here, the arrangement is between you and that business. We are not a party to any booking, purchase, contract or dispute, and we don’t act as an agent for either side.
A business appearing on Go Sussex is not a recommendation or guarantee. We make basic checks before a listing goes live, but we don’t verify qualifications, insurance, licences, safety standards, prices or the quality of anyone’s work. Please make your own checks before you hire or buy. A verified tick means only that we have confirmed with the business that the listing is genuine and run by them.
Listings are written by the businesses themselves. We do our best to keep the directory accurate, but details change, and we can’t promise that every listing is complete or up to date. Prices shown on listings are a guide, not an offer.
Business accounts
- You must be at least 18 and have the authority to act for each business you list.
- Each account is for one person. Don’t share your sign-in details. If several people manage a business, they should agree who holds the account.
- Keep your account details accurate, including an email address we can reach you on.
- Keep your password secure, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- One account can manage more than one business.
Listings, content and photos
When you add or edit a listing, you confirm that:
- the business is real, operates in or serves Sussex, and you are entitled to list it;
- everything you provide is accurate and not misleading, including prices, opening hours and any offers;
- you own, or have permission to use, every photo and logo you upload, and anyone recognisable in your photos is happy to appear in them;
- your content is lawful and doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights, and isn’t offensive, discriminatory or defamatory;
- you hold any registrations, licences and insurance that your business legally needs.
You keep ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, resize, crop and format it, and to show it on Go Sussex and in links to Go Sussex (for example in search results or when a page is shared), for as long as it is on the site. When you remove content, we stop showing it, although copies may remain in backups and in other websites’ caches for a short time.
We check new listings before they are published, normally within about 72 hours, but we don’t guarantee a timescale. We may edit listings for formatting, clarity or accuracy, and we may refuse, pause or remove a listing — for example if it breaks these terms, is a duplicate, or we can’t confirm the business is genuine. Where we can, we’ll tell you why. Please keep one listing for each business or branch.
Claiming a listing
If your business is already listed, you can ask to manage it. You must be the owner or have the owner’s authority. We may ask for evidence before approving a claim, and we may refuse a claim we can’t verify. If we find a claim was made without authority, we will remove access and may close the account.
We check every claim before anyone can edit a listing. The quickest way is to give us an email address at the business’s own website domain (for example, name@yourbusiness.co.uk). If you can’t, a member of our team will call you to confirm that you own or run the business. You can edit the listing from your business account once we have approved the claim.
Reviews
- Reviews must be based on your own genuine experience of the business.
- No fake or paid reviews. Don’t write, buy, sell or arrange reviews that don’t reflect a genuine experience, review your own business, or review a competitor. Fake reviews are unlawful in the UK under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, and businesses must not offer anything in return for a review.
- Keep reviews honest and relevant. Don’t include abuse, discrimination, threats or anyone’s personal details.
- Business owners may reply to reviews of their business, publicly and politely.
We check every review before it is published. We may refuse or remove reviews and replies that break these rules, and we may ask for more information if we are unsure whether a review is genuine. We don’t remove reviews simply because they are negative. By posting a review you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish it on Go Sussex.
The jobs board
If you post a job advert, you confirm that:
- it is a genuine, current vacancy that you are recruiting for, or are authorised to advertise;
- it is lawful and non-discriminatory, and complies with the Equality Act 2010;
- the pay and conditions are described accurately and meet at least the legal minimum wage;
- you will not charge applicants any fee to apply or to be considered;
- you will use applicants’ details only for recruiting for the role they applied for, keep them secure, and delete them when you no longer need them.
For the applications you receive, you are responsible for complying with data protection law. We check adverts before they go live and may refuse or remove an advert that breaks these terms or that we believe is not genuine.
If you apply for a job, the information you give must be true, and your application goes to the employer only. Please don’t send repeated or automated applications.
Paid products
Listing a business is free. These optional products are paid for:
| Product | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Featured listing — 30 days | £5 | Featured placement for 30 days, then it ends automatically |
| Featured listing — monthly | £3.99/month | Featured placement for as long as the subscription runs, with a 3-month minimum term |
| Featured event — 30 days | £5 | Featured placement for an event for 30 days, or until the event ends if that’s sooner |
| Standard job advert | £25 | 30 days on the jobs board |
| Featured job advert | £45 | 30 days on the jobs board, pinned to the top with a Featured badge |
Featured listings
A featured listing appears at the top of its category and town pages on Go Sussex and shows a Featured badge. It affects your position on Go Sussex only. It does not affect how your business ranks on Google or any other search engine, and we don’t promise any particular number of views or enquiries.
Featured time starts when your payment is confirmed or, if your listing is still waiting to be checked, when it is approved. If your listing is already featured, new time is added to the end of the current period.
Featuring a listing without an account. Anyone can pay to feature a published listing from its page without signing in. The featured time starts from the moment the payment is confirmed. Paying to feature a listing does not give you any right to edit or manage it, and it isn’t proof that you own the business. To edit the listing you must claim it; we approve the claim only once we have checked that you own or run the business.
Featured events. Anyone can also pay to feature a published event from its page, without an account. A featured event appears in the home page’s Featured events and shows a Featured badge. The 30 days start from the moment the payment is confirmed, and featuring ends when the event does, even if that is sooner; we don’t refund the unused days. Paying to feature an event doesn’t give you any right to change it. Events are added and edited by us: to change an event’s details, contact us and we will check that you are the organiser — an email address at the organiser’s own website domain is quickest; otherwise a member of our team will call you.
The monthly subscription is paid in advance each month and has a minimum term of 3 months, so you agree to pay for at least the first three months. After that you can cancel at any time, from your business account or by emailing us; cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for, and your listing stays featured until then. If you cancel during the minimum term, the subscription ends when the minimum term ends.
Job adverts
Each job advert runs for 30 days, starting on the day we approve it — not the day you pay — so time spent waiting for approval doesn’t reduce your 30 days. If you close an advert early, the unused time isn’t refunded.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown on the site before you buy and include any VAT that applies. Payments are taken securely by our payment provider, Stripe; we never see your full card details. We may change our prices in future. A change won’t affect anything you have already paid for, and if you have a subscription we’ll tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies, so you can cancel first if you wish (subject to any remaining minimum term).
Refunds
- If we reject an advert or listing upgrade that you have paid for, we will refund the payment in full.
- If we stop providing something you have paid for for reasons that aren’t your fault, we will refund the unused part.
- If we remove a listing or advert because it breaks these terms, we won’t refund the remaining time, and any subscription will be cancelled.
- Otherwise, payments are not refundable, except where the law requires.
Paid products are intended for businesses. Nothing in these terms affects any rights you have by law.
Acceptable use
When using Go Sussex, you must not:
- scrape, harvest or bulk-copy listings, reviews, jobs or contact details, whether by hand or with automated tools;
- use contact details found on the site to send spam or unsolicited marketing;
- post false, misleading, duplicate or spam listings, adverts, reviews or messages;
- impersonate a business or person, or misrepresent your connection to one;
- upload anything unlawful, harmful or containing viruses or malicious code;
- try to access accounts or data that aren’t yours, interfere with the site’s security, or disrupt the site;
- artificially inflate views, taps or other statistics.
Intellectual property
The Go Sussex name and logo, the design of the website, our guides and other content we write, and the way the directory is put together belong to us or our licensors. Business names, logos, photos and descriptions belong to the businesses that supplied them. You may share links to any page, but please don’t copy substantial parts of the site without our permission.
Our liability
We work hard to keep Go Sussex running and accurate, but we provide it “as is”. We don’t guarantee that it will always be available or free from errors, and we are not responsible for the goods, services, conduct or websites of the businesses and employers listed, or for any dealings you have with them.
If you use Go Sussex for business purposes, we are not liable to you for any loss of profit, sales, business, contracts, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you in connection with Go Sussex is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible only for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for any business losses you may suffer.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Suspension and closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account, or remove any listing, advert, review or other content, if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms or the law, puts other users at risk, or could expose us to legal action. Where it’s appropriate, we’ll tell you why and give you a chance to put things right.
You can stop using Go Sussex at any time. You can delete your listings from your account, and you can ask us to close your account by emailing info@yourappy.com. Closing your account doesn’t cancel amounts already due, such as the remaining minimum term of a subscription.
Changes to the site and these terms
We may change, add to or withdraw parts of Go Sussex. We may also update these terms, for example to reflect changes to our services or the law. The “last updated” date at the top shows the current version. If a change significantly affects business account holders or paid products, we’ll let account holders know by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
