The George Inn
18th-century coaching inn with food and rooms in Robertsbridge
About The George Inn
The George Inn is an 18th-century coaching inn on the High Street in Robertsbridge, a village a few miles north of Battle. It serves Harvey's ales and locally sourced food in a refurbished restaurant, and has a courtyard garden and its own car park. According to CAMRA, the writer Hilaire Belloc was a frequent visitor and wrote the early chapters of 'The Four Men' here. The pub also has four en-suite bedrooms, which makes it a handy base for exploring Bodiam, Bateman's and the wider Rother Valley. It has been under new ownership since 2023 and is dog friendly. Listings disagree on whether it opens on Mondays, so ring ahead before visiting, particularly if you plan to eat.
